Coaches bio:
Adam Dutra
Entering his 14th year as a swim instructor and coach, Adam has worked with swimmers of all ages—from six months to over seventy—and across every skill level. Throughout his career, he has focused on creating a comfortable, confidence-building environment in every lesson, believing that half of learning to swim begins with feeling at ease in the water. Adam swam competitively for the Newport County YMCA and Mt. Hope High School, where he developed a deep appreciation for proper technique—something he now emphasizes in all of his instruction. His coaching experience includes three years with the NCYMCA swim team and ten years with Mt. Hope High School. Adam attended Rhode Island College with the initial goal of becoming an elementary school teacher before graduating in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies. After a brief period working for National Grid, he joined the Pods family in 2019 as the pool operator and a swim instructor. He spent three years with Pods while earning his master’s degree from the University of Idaho, later stepping away in 2022 to work as a wetland scientist. His passion for swimming and working with children brought him back to Pods in early 2023, where he now serves as the Aquatics Manager.
